Caught! Huge Tarpon Caught By Local Angler!

Jason Newland, a local angler and resident of Fort Myers, caught a huge tarpon on Saturday morning. The tarpon weighed in at 190 pounds and measured 78 inches in length.

This is the biggest tarpon that Newland has ever caught. "I've been fishing for tarpon for twenty years, and this is the biggest one I've ever landed", he said.

The tarpon was caught using a live baitfish, which was hooked in the mouth and then played until it was tired enough to be hauled into the boat. Newland said that it was a thrilling experience to catch such a large fish. "It's definitely an adrenaline rush when you hook into a big one like that", he remarked.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has set regulations for the size and bag limit of tarpon. A single tarpon must measure between 54 and 79 inches in length, or have a weight of at least 80 pounds. Anglers are allowed to catch two tarpon per day during the open season.

Tarpon are one of the most sought-after gamefish in Florida. They are prized for their fighting capabilities and delicious meat. Tarpon can reach weights of up to 300 pounds or more, making them one of the largest fish in the state.

Giant Tarpon Spotted In Florida Waters!

Residents and visitors in the Florida Keys were treated to an amazing sight last week when a giant tarpon was spotted swimming in the shallows near Islamorada.

This majestic fish is the largest member of the jack family and can grow up to 8 feet long and weigh over 200 pounds. They are usually found in warmer waters near the coast, where they feed on small fish and crustaceans.

Anglers often target tarpon because of their fighting spirit and delicious meat, but catching one of these giants is no easy task. They are known for their incredible aerial acrobatics when hooked, and can easily break a fishing line if not landed properly.

So it was quite a surprise to see one of these beasts swimming around in a few feet of water near some boats last week. It's unclear how long the tarpon was there for, but it's definitely a once-in-a-lifetime sighting that none of those present will soon forget.

Tournament Winners Catch Monster Tarpon!

One of the most popular sport fishing tournaments in the world is now in full swing. The Floridian coast has been invaded by monster tarpon, and anglers from all over have descended on the Sunshine State to see if they can reel in one of these giant fish.

The tournament, which stretches over a week, kicked off over the weekend with a bang. Thousands of dollars were at stake as anglers battled it out for first place. In the end, it was a team from Texas who reeled in the biggest tarpon of the event.

The Texas team managed to hook their fish late on Sunday night, and it took them more than two hours to reel it in. When they finally hauled it onto shore, they found that it was an impressive 5 feet 9 inches long and weighed a staggering 155 pounds!

This monster tarpon is now the new record holder for the biggest fish caught in this tournament. The old record was held by a fish that weighed 143 pounds.

There are still plenty of days left in the event, so there is still time for other anglers to try and catch a bigger tarpon. If you're lucky enough to land one of these giants, you could walk away with some serious prize money!

Historic Tarpon Sighting Nearshore!

In a historic sighting, a tarpon was spotted nearshore this week! This rare fish is typically seen in much deeper waters, so this sighting is quite a surprise.

Anglers and boaters have been out in droves trying to spot the giant fish, and some have even managed to snap pictures and videos of it. The tarpon is said to be around six feet long and weighs in at around 250 pounds.

This amazing sight is a reminder of just how much beauty can be found close to shore. So get out there and explore the coast – you never know what you might find!

Tarpon Fishing Tips For Beginners

The thrill of the chase is what drives many people to tarpon fishing. These apex predators can grow to over 200 pounds, and provide a challenging fight on light tackle. Here are some tips for getting started in this exciting sport:

  1. Look for tarpon in areas where baitfish are concentrated. Tarpon will feed on baitfish throughout the day, but they are especially active early and late in the day.

  2. Use live bait if possible. Squid, mullet, pinfish, and shrimp work well.

  3. Use a light tackle setup with a 6-8 weight rod and plenty of 20-30 pound test line.

  4. Cast your bait towards the bank or structure and allow it to sink before beginning your retrieve. Tarpon often ambush prey from beneath structures such as mangroves or docks.

  5. Be prepared for a vigorous fight once you hook up with a tarpon. These fish can peel off line rapidly and make long runs. Make sure you have a sturdy drag setting on your reel.

  6. Be patient and use steady pressure when fighting a tarpon. Don't attempt to pull the fish out of the water prematurely - let the fish wear itself out before landing it in your boat or netting it.

Tarpon fishing can be an incredibly rewarding experience for anglers of all levels of experience. By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to landing your first tarpon!
