Florida Fisherman Snags 300-pound Tarpon

A Florida fisherman reeled in a massive 300-pound tarpon over the weekend, setting a new state record in the process.

Fisherman Konrad Godlewski hooked the tarpon on Saturday while fishing in the St. Johns River near Green Cove Springs. After a lengthy battle, he finally reeled the fish in and hauled it onto his boat.

The previous Florida state record for a tarpon was held by a fish that weighed 246 pounds.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Godlewski's tarpon is currently the largest ever caught in Florida by weight. However, they are still awaiting confirmation from an official with the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) to make it an official world record.

"It was just a beautiful fish," said Godlewski of his record-setting catch. "I couldn't be happier."
